UK’s leading FES device provider

Who we are

We are Odstock Medical Ltd (OML) and we are the UK’s leading provider of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) devices and clinical treatment. We were established in 2005 by the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust to build on FES expertise created by Salisbury District Hospital.

Our devices have been designed through collaborative effort, for over 25 years, by clinical engineers, clinicians and patients at the National Clinical FES Centre. Our devices can help with lower limb and upper limb problems.

We want to improve the lives of people with neuromuscular disabilities worldwide by providing the highest quality in medical device technology and service. As well as providing the FES devices, treatment and support, we offer FES training for clinicians so they can offer FES treatment to their patients too.

How we help

OML’s goal is to improve the daily lives of people who have neurologic disfunction by improving their mobility in lower and upper limb and other aspects of disability by providing Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) devices and clinical treatment.

We continue to help raise the awareness of FES as part of a patient’s (both adult and children) neurological rehabilitation. We would like all current and potential patients to be able to live an independent and fulfilled life from Paralympian to popping to the shops.

FES is widely used for the correction of dropped foot, but can also be used for other treatments including:

  • Exercise – for strengthening muscles
  • Upper limb
    • Subluxation of the shoulder
    • To improve hand and arm function
  • Assisted cough and blood pressure control in tetraplegia
  • Facial paralysis/Bell’s Palsy
  • Alleviate constipation/irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

OML not only provides FES devices and treatment but is also responsible for developing the devices involved in FES research and also training clinicians in the use of FES.
