Introduction

Training Course Survey

These training courses provide healthcare professionals with the skills to use Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) and OML stimulator devices in neuro-rehabilitation.

We now run a programme of face to face and online courses throughout the year for upper limb and lower limb electrical stimulation.

Course Details

FES for the Lower Limb +

Outline:

The course is aimed at Clinicians who wish to introduce FES to their clinical practice and also those who may want to assess patients prior to referral to dedicated FES services.

The course reviews the evidence and neurological theory that supports FES and provides practical training in the use of the ODFS® Pace.

You will learn its application for correction of dropped foot, for muscle training and for its use for gait training using other muscle groups.

You must attend a training course before you can purchase the ODFS® Pace and Pace XL Stimulators.  Participants attending this course are able to purchase the ODFS® Pace stimulator loaned to them at a reduced rate, i.e. 25% off list price.  If you would like to take us up on this offer, please indicate this in the training course registration form.

The lower limb course can be delivered either face to face or online.

Face to Face:

This is a single day course with face to face teaching.  After first learning to use the device on yourself, there is an opportunity to practice on patient volunteers.  The course includes a 2 month loan of an ODFS® Pace.

Our trainers

Our courses are written and presented by experienced FES clinicians and FES researchers who are working in FES clinics.  The course brings together over 30 years of direct patient experience.

OML’s clinical experience ranges from adults to children across a variety of conditions using FES to aid walking, improve upper limb function and strengthen muscles by exercising with the FES device.

The Team is led by Paul Taylor, co-founder of OML and its Clinical Director.  He is a Biomedical Engineer and leads the FES research and clinical team at the National Clinical FES Centre in Salisbury.  He is a researcher for the National Institute for Health Research and a visiting professor at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Bournemouth University and Consultant Clinical Scientist at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. Paul developed the original range of OML FES devices and assessed their use in a series of clinical trials for people with stroke, MS, spinal cord injury and Parkinson’s disease.

Lower Limb FES Training Course

Upper Limb FES Training Course

Lower limb course testimonials

I feel much more confident having attended this course today and would now like to clinically apply this to my daily practice- Physiotherapist in NHS Hospital

There was a good balance between theory and practical. The patient engagement elements were excellent with informal assistance/guidance.

Thought that the opportunity to practice on patients was excellent and brought the theory to life.

Upper limb course testimonials

Very clear explanations – Excellent support in practical sessions.

Fantastic resources, teaching and practical application. Excellent tutor who was extremely knowledgeable and approachable.

Well delivered. Good to have mix of theory and practical and to do practical both on each other and on patients.
