How to Connect Pace XL

Home > How to Connect Pace XL

How to connect Pace XL with Linq and Remote

  • • Turn the Remote on and/or unlock the screen using the power button.
  • • Go into the menu by holding down the mode button  for three seconds.
  • • Navigate to the wireless menu option by pressing the test button twice.
  • • You should see this:
  • • Select the wireless menu option with the pause button.
  • • You will now see a screen showing what stimulators are joined. A solid line indicates the
stimulator is joined. The highlighted number (black text on white background) indicates which is selected.
  • • If you have only one stimulator joined, you will probably see number 2 highlighted:
  • • The solid bar shows stimulator 1 is joined. The highlight on the number 2 is used if joining
    a second stimulator.
  • • You don’t want that, so change stimulators by pressing the channel select button .
  • • You should see number 1 highlighted.
  • • Start rejoining stimulator 1 by pressing the pause button . The
solid line will turn to a moving dotted line.
  • • Promptly cancel joining stimulator 1 by pressing the pause button again .
  • • An ‘X’ on screen will indicate that joining has been cancelled. This has removed stimulator
    1. • Joining the Pace XL to the Remote
    2. • Joining the Ling to the Pace XL, with the Remote screen unlocked
  • • If you have removed all stimulators, after a couple of seconds, the Remote will exit the menu
and the screen will show that there are no stimulators joined.
  • • Using a wireless symbol with an X:
  • • If you still see number 1 or 2 on the screen, it means that another stimulator is still
joined. You can use the above process to remove it.

Joining the Pace XL to the Remote

Initiate joining on the Remote (page 27 of the manual):

  • • Unlock the Remote using the power button.
  • • Go into the menu by holding down the mode button for three seconds.
  • • Navigate to the wireless menu option by pressing the test button twice.
  • • You should see this:
  • • Select the wireless menu option with the pause button.
  • • The Remote will briefly show an egg timer before waiting for the Pace XL to join. A moving
    dashed line is displayed
  • • If other numbers or a solid line are displayed it means you did not reset the Remote
successfully – please go back to the beginning of this email.
You have two minutes to complete the steps below on the Pace.

Initiate joining on the Pace XL:

  • • Turn the Pace XL on.
  • • Briefly press and release the control knob to unlock it.
  • • Hold the control knob for 4 seconds to go into the user menu. Let go when it displays “Walk
Mode”. The screen should continue to display “Walk Mode” with a flashing box in the lower right corner of the
screen. This is the current mode.
  • • Turn the control knob one click clockwise to go to the Options menu. (If it displays
“Airplane Mode” or “My Steps” you have gone too far. If it displays “Exercise” or “Turn Off” you have gone in
    the wrong direction.)
  • • Press and release the control knob to go into the Options menu. It will display “Beeps”.
  • • Turn the control knob two clicks clockwise to go to the Wireless Options menu.
  • • Press and release the control knob to go into the Wireless Options menu. It will display
    “Join F.Switch”.
  • • Turn the control knob one click clockwise to “Join Remote”.
  • • Press and release the control knob to ask to join the Remote.
  • • If the Pace asks you confirm, press and release the control knob again.
  • • You should see an egg timer symbol.
  • • After 10-15 seconds the joining process should complete: the Pace will beep and display
“Remote Joined!” then “EXIT”. The Remote will start trying to join a second stimulator.
  • • Cancel this by pressing the pause button on the Remote.
  • • Press the Pace XL control knob to exit the menu.
  • • If the process has worked the Remote screen will show the Paused symbol (two vertical
parallel bars in the middle of the screen).
  • • You cannot unpause until you either plug in a wired footswitch or join a Linq.

Joining the Linq to the Pace, with the Remote screen unlocked

  • • Take the battery out of the Linq.
  • • Turn the Pace XL on.
  • • Briefly press and release the control knob to unlock it. Do the next step before it locks
    again!
Don’t press anything just yet.
  • • Unlock the Remote using the power button on the Remote.
  • • Press and release the Pace XL control knob to ask the Pace XL to join the footswitch. You
should see an egg timer symbol on the Pace XL display.
  • • When asked ‘Spare’ or ‘Replace’, please choose ‘Replace’ by rotating the control knob clockwise and pressing it to select.
  • • Put the battery back in the Linq. You should see a brief blue flash from its LED light. If
not, check that the battery is good and that it is the right way up.
  • • Put the battery cover back on the Linq.
  • • Press the tiny button on the Linq marked
  • • You should see a steady blue flashing light on the Linq.
  • • After 10-15 seconds the joining process should complete: the Pace will beep and display
    “F.Switch Joined!” then “EXIT”.
  • • Press the Pace XL control knob to exit the menu.

Test the system

If all has gone well, the remote screen now shows a pause symbol and the Pace XL displays ‘WALK’, a percentage and a pause symbol.

  • • If the remote screen has turned off, unlock the Remote using the power button on the Remote.
  • • Unpause the system by pressing the pause button on the Remote.
  • • If it unpauses successfully, both the Pace XL and the Remote will display a triangle pointing right.
  • • Press and release the footswitch. You should see a blue flickering light near the top right of the Pace XL display for a couple of seconds after you release the footswitch. Success!
  • • If you are wearing the electrodes, you may need to turn the percentage up to about 50% to get a proper effect.
