Patients with no upper limb function post-stroke were treated with electrical stimulation over their wrist extensors for eight weeks in addition to their usual therapy. These patients were compared to a similar group of patients post-stroke who had their usual therapy only. Measurements of range of movement, stiffness and strength were taken at 4, 8, 20 and 32 weeks. Improvements in extensor strength were signifficantly better in the treatment group.
